OpenEarable, an open source earpiece platform

A modular earable built on the Arduino Nano 33 BLE Sense, released under the MIT licence, and a useful starting point for custom designs.

OpenEarable is an open source platform for earables, devices worn in the ear. It is built on the Arduino Nano 33 BLE Sense ecosystem and is modular, so developers can shape the device to their own needs.

The core module is based on the Arduino Nano 33 BLE Sense board, with a Nordic nRF52840 microcontroller and a range of sensors. Expansion modules stack on top of the core to add functions. The platform has applications in healthcare, sport and entertainment.

OpenEarable is released under the MIT licence, which allows commercial and non commercial use, modification and distribution, as long as the original authors are credited. That model encourages collaboration while making sure the community benefits from the work.

For a company, it can be a starting point for a custom proprietary design, or a base to extend with new functions. Building on an existing, open platform can save a good deal of time and money in the early stages.

We help companies turn existing concepts like this into their own products, and we also develop new concepts from scratch, from the first idea through design, prototyping, testing and manufacturing.
